There will be no hockey Sunday. This is subject to Mother Nature's approval.
The live Internet streaming video will be present again, located through a link off our website (www.MRPH.ca). This is a partnership between Bell-Aliant, District 16, and Miramichi Online. Please let friends and family, far and wide, know they can tune in to watch and maybe see familiar faces. District schools will also be doing video interviews and blogging for the Internet community.

Molson-Coors and Miramichi Transit have teamed up to offer free rides to and from French Fort Cove. All that is needed is to get on any city bus anywhere in the city and say you are going to pond hockey, there will be no charge and they will drop you off there. Please take the opportunity to leave your vehicle at home as parking is limited. There will be additional bus availability Saturday night after the fireworks and final games, with the last one leaving the pond close to 10 PM. Look for the temporary bus shelter, which will have the schedule posted inside.

This year will see our first use of the "PondTron", a 10 foot by 7.5 foot video screen. Supplied by Trinity Sounds, it will act like a large Smartboard with constant information about team standings, scheduled games, etc.

Friday Feb.3 is "Jersey Day". Everyone is encouraged to put on their favourite hockey jersey, whether they are at school, work, or play. Please take the time to click a picture and forward it to rotarypondhockey@yahoo.ca.

Miramichi White Gold Festival

February 10 – 12, 2012

FRIDAY, February 10

8:00 pm

Dart Shoot, Royal Canadian Legion Miramichi Br. 10

For info call 506-622-1809

9:00 pm

Karaoke with Tom L’Huillier, Royal Canadian Legion Miramichi Br. 10

For info call 506-622-1809

SATURDAY, February 11

1:00 pm

2nd Annual Ralph Mullin 9 Ball Tournament, Royal Canadian Legion Miramichi Br. 10

$10 per player- individual play, all money to prizes, minimum 6 games. Prizes will be awarded for pumpkins landing closest to the balloon targets in the river or the marked bull’s eye on the ground. Money raised during the event is earmarked for the healthy breakfast program in Miramichi area schools.

Miramichi Country Music Festival

Miramichi 5th Country Music Festival - 2011

September 16th, Friday – Opening of Festival

8pm “Ellie Sullivan Band” from Plaster Rock

Admission: $10.00

September 17th – Saturday

8 am “Breakfast & Flea Market”

2 pm Kitchen Party (open Mic)

Admission: $ 3

Supper from Kate’s take out – Fish a speciality

8 pm “Hearthand Band” from Moncton area

Happy Birthday Michael Mullin !!!! He did design a couple which he can call his own. (1) Georges Renous Copper, and (2) Black Bear Hackle and Squirrel developed by himself and Marc Madore of Blackville. These two flies have been included in Paul Mariner’s book, “Modern Atlantic Salmon Flies”. George’s favorite fly is “The Butterfly”.

George credits his years in the military with his heart felt belief that people should be treated the way he would like to be treated. George’s shop is a real meeting place for many people who visit regularly, and who share his feelings “that fishing is more than catching a fish, its just being on the river with friends”.

George has a story on his wall about Ted Williams being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. The inscription reads, “George ties my flies”.

He is especially interested in the young people who come into his shop and purchase materials for fly tying and also for advice. He adds up their purchases and divides the total in half. He loves to see young people on the river fishing.

George has been extremely generous with various gifts to our Salmon Museum – especially in supplying rods, and materials for fly tying to our ecological summer camp, “Come Play on Our River”, which we operate each summer. A children’s summer camp has been in operation since the inception of the museum, having been renamed several times.

To keep this amazing award winning camp going we are finding ourselves in need of funds to sustain it.

George has received a “Friend of the River” award from the North West Salmon Protection Association. George’s generosity, his comfortable way of treating his customers, and his outstanding success in the profession he loves, has earned him the title he is often known by, “THE MAN AT THE MOUTH”. It is indeed our pleasure to honor him on August 19, 2011in the River Room, at the Atlantic Salmon Museum, 263 Main Street, Doaktown, NB.

If you wish to say a few words on George’s behalf or if you have memorabilia that you can loan the museum for this special event, please inform Linda. type='text'>2011 SUMMER CAMP

In June, 2010, our Miramichi region was named the 1st SMART Showcase Community in the world! Since then, the Miramichi River Tourism Association (MRTA) has been working closely with District 16 to use this unique designation as a catalyst for creating special opportunities for our youth, which will also lead to future benefits for our entire Miramichi community.

Both of these goals are now beginning to be realized by means of a unique three week summer camp that is being hosted in Miramichi for 10 international students from July 17 to August 7th. We are in need of families to host these students. Local students who do become hosts will be given an opportunity to participate in the camp at a greatly reduced rate and, thereby, gain an opportunity to learn some very unique technology skills, as well as participate in a variety of exciting outdoor activities.

Students will spend three days along the banks of the Miramicih River at the Morada Resort, receive specialized training in SMART technology, become highly proficient in taking digital photographs, take boat tours, become immersed in cultures unique to Miramichi, participate in a lobster cookout and bar-b-que at Escuminac Beach, and challenge themselves on the High Elements Course at Miramichi Valley High School. They will also learn how to tie flies, fly cast, and canoe. Additionally, they will take part in archery and GPS sessions. And that is just the “tip of the ice berg”!

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_DYdwJI_o6M/TfitQNW6IxI/AAAAAAAAADA/te0ni5q_KM4/s1600/Salmon_406.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; Sit under the stars by the roaring outdoor campfire and experience both in this tradition of cultural exchange. You are about to explore the mix of cultures indicative of the original Miramichi settlers.

Aboriginal, European and local "Miramichi-ers" form a "talking circle" where the emblematic "talking stick" is passed from one person to the next. Tell your own story or join in the campfire sing-a-long. Sample different food made from European, Aboriginal and local Miramichi family recipes. Stoke the fire at the on-site-teepee and chat with your Aboriginal host.

Relax in your comfortable resort room and head out in the morning to experience some of the nearby Miramichi adventure. Our AGM Committee had anticipated having an experiential type AGM this year; but unfortunately due to the date change our “skiing” component is now not feasible. Also, after speaking with each board member; and due to the fact some of you have other commitments either immediately before or after the AGM and taking into consideration travel time plus the business aspect of our meeting we have decided to move the meeting within city limits. It is essential that we have a quorum for this important meeting. A new Venue has been confirmed. See Below.

Meeting Date: Thursday, April 7th, 2011
Time: 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm
Place: Howard Johnson’s - Miramichi
Supper will be served. The event was attended by a large number of dignitaries led by Premier Shawn Graham, and representatives from municipal and provincial government, education, local business, and tourism. MRTA summer students Kimberly Mertens and Patrick Losier gave a presentation demonstrating how SMART Boards have enabled new opportunities for both partnership and collaboration between tourism operators, and how the technology is engaging visitors at each of the sites whilst showcasing the hearty spirit of the Miramichi region.

The collaboration between the various sectors of the community will continue over time and a twelve-month schedule has been developed. July will mark the first month of SMART Community initiatives dubbed "Miramichi Tourism Trivia" and will feature some of the interactive content that has been created for the Miramichi Region and it's operators. Tammy Sanford; MRTA Executive Director, accepted a paddle crafted by a student of School District 16 - a symbol of the ongoing partnership and collaboration in the Miramichi made possible by SMART technology.

Tabusintac Spring Supper

<img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px;
